    1. Robert McCrimmon, Elizabeth Anderson, Mother Duff(y)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McCrimmon, MacCrimmon, Anderson, Duff, or Duffy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/WeC.2ACI/1318 Message Board Post: My uncle is Donald McCrimmon. He lives in West Homestead, Allegheny Co., Penna., USA. This is just about 10 miles east of Pittsburgh. His father was Robert McCrimmon born 1887 in/near Dumbartonshire Scotland. He married Elizabth Anderson born about 1889, also in/near Dumbartonshire, whose maiden name was maybe Duff or Duffy. My cousin Donna McCrimmon says she has copy of a lament written by still another Donald McCrimmon of the 1700's and that her McCrimmon's were pipers and warriors to the Clan McLeod on Isle of Skye (Dunvegan Castle?). I have Robert and Elizabeth and their children {Elizabeth, Donald and Jessie} in the 1930 Allegheny Co. Penna. census but I have not been able to find them in the 1920 census or their parents in either the USA or UK census data. I did not find them in the Ellis Island listing of ships passengers. I found Robert's WWI draft registration card dated 1917 wherein he spelled his name MacCrimmon. I did not find them in the McC/MacCrimmon Family Ge! nealogical Registry also I left several similar messages elsewhere on the Isle of Skye McC/MacCrimmon message board Do you recognize any of these names

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WeC.2ACI/1317.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I think people tend to not be aware of the information limitations that familysearchorg has due to copyright restrictions (because of the CD). I don't recall all the aspects but anyone who'd like to know more can email them if they don't see the info online - they go in I think 8 week cycles for their information so one cycle your ancester is there and then 6 months later you suddenly can't find them! :o) Thought I was going batty until I found out about the full aspects of the site! But I totally agree, not everyone can easily get to a center so the more available (especially free) the more that it can help people with their searches.

On their site there is full information about why they aren't allowed to have all the information published online - which is why they tend to update their database in cycles. The full info they have is only available on their CD which is available to purchase or is also at the Family Centers. Great for FreeCen for taking up this task! The more online the better!!

    1. Shankland and Brown families
    2. Gord Lester
    3. I am afraid that I am not sure how to use this site, to date I have just been "listening". However, I am going to Dumbarton and Renton next month and will have a bit of time to try and find the gravestones of Shankland and Brown families and gather some background material. If some one can give me some direction with my following questions, it would be greatly appreciated. > > John Shankland, (my ancestor) died in Dumbarton in 1913 in an accident at the Lennox Cooperative Society Bakery. He was protestant, where may he have been buried? Where might I find some background on the bakery? > > John Davie Brown (my other ancestor) died 23 February 1924, and is buried in the Milburn Churchyard in Renton. Does any one know if the graves have been indexed? And where could I find this information? > > Thank you, > > Gordon Lester >

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WeC.2ACI/1313.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: The burial sites will be a real plus. When you live close to your ancestors, it is easy to go to the cemetery, lay flowers on the site and take photos. However, if you live across the pond, not possible. I sent photos of a local grave to Australia and the person was so grateful. Even getting the burial site is a bonus doing genealogy. Your project sounds just wonderful. Lauraine

In a large country like Canada, many people might get to visit it once or twice a year and some possibly once every 10 years. I do appreciate that you are going to all this work and know there will be many many grateful people here in Canada who will appreciate your efforts. Many thanks for seeing this need. Lauraine

It may be just the place some new person to genealogy might find to start their family tree. Free information is a good thing. L

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WeC.2ACI/1313.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: If the information is there, I cannot always find it. I live in a wee town and do not have accesss to a microfilm reader or a Family History library. Also, quite a bit of the information on some of my family had errors. I think any additional information is great for seniors and others who are not in a location with services offered in large cities. Some of the information is transcribed and put on line by family researching them. I know they at times crib dates for all too obvious reasons. I do use Family Search quite a bit as a basis, but some of the dates makes it very difficult to find documentation even on Scotlands People. It is great site, but there are many cases where information formerly on line now costs money to purchase on CD's. It may still be available to those with access to their libraries, but many of us do not have that access. I am all for more information especially if it is free. Lauraine

    3. Not all of the OPRs are on the LDS web site, but the FHCs have a CD at their facilities which has many more. Some of my Dewars are not in the IGI,but are on the CD under Scottish Church Records. Scotlands People also have a more complete data base of OPRs,I believe some are still being added as they are found. 1. BARRON deaths in Cumbernauld Where are they?
    2. Robin Taylor
    3. Would be grateful for any help solving this problem. In 1841 JOHN BARRON is shown in Cumbernauld age 68 being born in Ireland As he is not shown in 1851 with his family I assume he will have died 1841-51 I am unable to find his burial record in Cumbernauld or those for his children JEAN BARRON who died 14 March 1855 or JAMES BARRON who died 15 September 1857 and are both shown as being buried in the Cumbernauld Churchyard. As John was born in Ireland it's possible he was of the Catholic faith Does anyone know whether Cumbernauld had a Roman Catholic church or suggest how I can find the records. Many thanks for any help. Rob

    1. John CURRIE/Elizabeth THOMSON
    2. Win MacKenzie
    3. Hello listers, Does anyone have John CURRIE and Elizabeth THOMSON in their tree? They were married in Cardross 24 May 1867. I've been working on my Currie line that came from Morvern, Argyll to Cardross sometime in the early 1850's. I'm trying to determine if this John fits in. John CURRIE and Elizabeth THOMSON's first child was Janet born 24 Apr 1868. There are two more listed on the IGI - Mary 08 Jul 1874 in Bonhill and Sarah 02 Nov 1870 Glasgow. Does anyone have any further information on this family ? Regards, Win MacKenzie Victoria, BC
