If that is your William, his parents were William McKinlay and Margaret Rutherford. Unfortunately, that info has not helped me as I hoped. If we can go back one more generation to a William McKinlay born c.1824 in Edinburgh then we will have hit "pay dirt"! So I will keep trying and let you know.

William and Jessie McKinlay were married in the late 1860's and had Mary, Annie, William, Robert, Alexander, and John as documented by cenus listings. There may have been other children as well. Based on oral history, we believe this families had roots in Edinburgh. Any connection here? Kate

I found a family on the 1851 census as follows: Agnes Stevenson - widow age 57; James 23, Janet 18, Mary 18. Their last names were Wallace. All born Old Kirkpatrick Dunbartonshire. This census was in Glasgow. As far as I know my Wallace line begins Dunbartonshire, goes to Glasgow where son James married Mary Buchanan, then moves to Bo'ness where 8 children were born. Names: Mary, James, John the first, John the second, Alexander Booth, Agnes, William. Of these children both Johns died as did William. Mary married John Henderson in 1872. After he died she moved to Glasgow. The 1861 Bo'ness census has the Wallaces at 165 North Street, 1871 census on East Street.

    1. CHESTER/ROWAT/STIRLING/DICK
    2. Janet
    3. I am posting the above names bearing in mind the closeness of Dunbartonshire with the Borders. In the main they are Glaswegian, Cumbernauld and I have heard some were in Ayr, as well as in Ireland. I have a paternal tree dating back to mid 1700s in which these names appear. CHESTER was my paternal name and I have anticipated a time when I might find they were English, by the place of that name. However, it appears that at one time, ca 1100, Cumberland, Westmorland, Northumbria, & Carlisle were Scottish. http://www.aboutscotland.com/hadrian/chesters.html and this medieval site confirms the possibility. http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/usbiography/monarchs/malcolmiv.html Throughout his reign the pious and frail Malcolm was consistently out-thought and outmanoeuvred by Henry II, who was crowned King of England in 1154, much to the dismay of many Scottish nobles. In 1149 Henry had promised David I he would uphold Scotland's claim to much of northern England. But in 1157 Henry summoned Malcolm to meet him at Chester. There they signed the Treaty of Chester under which Malcolm relinquished Scottish claims to Cumberland, Westmorland, Northumbria, and Carlisle. In return he was granted the Earldom of Huntingdon: arguably his by rights anyway in succession to his father. If anyone has interests in the above names I would be pleased to hear from you. Janet

    3. Hello Glenda In the book for DUNBARTONSHIRE (as opposed to Dumbarton 'town') I have, there are the following cemetaries/churchyards/etc. Alexandria/Arrochar/Bonhill/Cardross/Cumbernauld/Dumbarton Churchyard & Bridge End & Cemetary/Gartshore Quaker Burial ground/Faslane/Helensburgh/New Kilpatrick/Old Kilpatrick/Kilmarnock/Kirkintilloch St. Marys & Orchard/Kirkintilloch Auld Isle and cemetary/Luss/Renton-Millburn /Rhu/Roseneath (lots of my family here!). Kirkintilloch seems to be three or four - some are pretty small. So - about 24 or 25!! The book is obtainable from the Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society. www.gwsfhs.org.uk Perhaps it may be on film at LDS centres but I don't know for sure about that. Incidentally I have a couple of McFarlanes in my tree! 3. Dear all Since mentioning that I would do a look-up for someone on this list - I have had numerous requests for look-ups, most of which are very vague. Please understand that the book contains all the cemetaries in Dunbartonshire - 25 in fact. There are therefore hundreds of people !! It is impossible to look up some of the vague requests I have had, however, if you have a person or a family, whose name and place of death is clear, as well as date of death, then I can possibly have a look. I don't mind doing look-ups at all, but please be clear about who you are seeking. Thank you Lorna NZ

    1. Posting interests ~ KIRKPATRICK
    2. Janet
    3. Hello everyone, I am posting another name in my interests. Is anyone searching this name, by any chance?. I need to find the birth to find the parents, of one David KIRKPATRICK, don't know where, but the name has strong Scots origins. He was born 1783. I only know that because I found him in Cheshire Parish Registers named on his daughter's marriage. He died before his daughter was married; worth making the point because he wasn't named there as having deceased. He was a Master Mariner when he married on 10th May 1818 in Liverpool - I have a copy of his Marriage Bond, and in the Polls Register 1824 a Surgeon at 130 Park Lane Liverpool, as he was when I found his death, again in the Cheshire Parish Registers in 1837. The Scots origin of this name is too strong in history for me to let the possibility go; the KIRKPATRICKS of Closeburn are notorious. I guess I ought to have joined a Dumfries list, but thought it was worth posting here before I do. Janet

They are as follows: William McIntyre 58 Ann B McIntyre 50 John McIntyre 18 James " 17 William " 13 The Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History Society will send out the print for a small donation.
