We have 2 men tested with Jamaican ancestry. One lives in the US and the other in Luxembourg. DNA results show that neither one is genetically related. Would your husband's DNA match one of these gentlemen or be of completely different ancestry. It would be wonderful if someone with Jamaican ancestry would take the time to research this area. Just doing a basic search at Familysearch.org I found a birth record as far back as 29 Nov 1663 at St. Michael, Barbados for a Wm Dunbar. Familysearch has been continually adding birth, death, and marriage records. Many of the records have pics of the documents. Also, there is a new publication titled "The Sugar Barons: Family, Corruption, Empire, and War in the West Indies" by Matthew Parker that I picked up at the library a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, there are no Dunbars listed in the Index but there's an extensive bibliography which might give some resources for you to look into. The start date for the book is about 1640. It's very possible that some of the Scottish Dunbars were prisoners of war and transported to the island's as indentured servants. The family info for our Luxembourg Dunbar can be found listed as D-126 on the DNA Patriarchs page. http://www.dunbardna.com/wfpatriarchs.htm Our Project offers a Rebate for any Dunbar to test.
