I am new to this list and I am hoping someone has researched Elizabeth DUNAR and would not mind helping me out some. All I have on Elizabeth Dunbar who married Elisha Sawyer is that she is listed on the Pownal Maine Tax List of 1808 where she is listed as a widow. I believe she was born in 1765. I also have the names of nine children, but that's it. If anyone can offer any help I would greatly appreciate it. To find out more about this special please visit the Home page at: http://www.dunbardna.org/ Who Can Test? To participate you must be a male who was born with the surname Dunbar or believe that your direct male ancestry leads to a Dunbar (name change, adoption etc.) with no female ancestors in direct line (father, grandfather, g-grandfather, etc.) If you are a non-Dunbar male or female researcher you'll need to find a male cousin, uncle, nephew, etc. who carries the Dunbar surname and you can participate through that person. The photo that started it all is identified as Kenneth DUNBAR. He's dressed in an infantry uniform. The photo is sepia tone (the browns) so it's kind of hard to determine the color of the uniform. I believe that his shirt and tie are khaki. This is an 8x10. Written on the back is: Kenneth DUNBAR about 1946. There's a photographers stamp on the back also that says, "This negative No. 76754 on file at PO Box 1749 Charlotte, N.C. The other photo is a wallet size snap shot. Written around the edge of it is: Doyle, Dunbar, Schmidt, Bartz, Agnst. Camp in England. The five men are posing as if they are stacked one on top of the other. Written again on the back are the last names of the men and "Taken in Camp". Then there is an Army Examiner stamp also and a number, 39 772. I picked these up because I believe that there is family somewhere who might like to have this treasure. After all he probably went through, it didn't need to end up in a box in an antique shop in St. Johns, Michigan. Contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details if you'd like to obtain it, or if you can point me in the direction of the family he or any of the other men would belong to. Author: DebraNowell Surnames: Dunbar and all variations Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunbar/1104/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dunbar Y-DNA Project Update - Aug. 2008 The Dunbar DNA Project now has 84 participants with many more people following the project for a total over 130 serious Dunbar researches. We have accumulated a wide range of pedigrees from all these people and would like to add more names. This project is a worldwide endeavor open to anyone interested in discovering their Dunbar surname ancestry. The name DUNBAR can be traced back to Gospatric I, 1040-1115, in Scotland with the Royal roots of Dunbar going back even further. Over the centuries, Gospatric's descendants have multiplied and ventured from Scotland to distant lands all over the world. The Dunbar Surname DNA Project was created in an attempt to discover how the various Dunbar lines around the world are related with the help of DNA. We want you to find new genetic cousins and hopefully get your ancestry back further in time. Once a DNA match is made, we form a Lineage. Lineage 1 has 36 men, Lineage 2 has 8 men, Lineage 3 has 5 men, and Lineage 4 has 2 men. We have 19 men who haven't found another Dunbar that matches with their DNA. We really want to get Dunbar matches for all 19 men. We have several test kits being processed by the lab and several more awaiting return to FTDNA but, we need more people to test. The number of International participants has doubled since Nov. 2007. 2 - Australia, 4 - Canada, 1 - New Zealand, 3 - UK. To date, we have awarded 26 Sponsorships, to all eligible men, for a total amount distributed of almost $3,000.00. Plus, we have some terrific summer savings currently being offered. If you've wanted to test, now is the time to do so. You can't beat these prices. I know that most people have listed William Dunbar as the father and that is a possibility. I have recently learned through talking with Clan Dunbar and researching a book called "Colonial Families of Maryland Bound and Determined to Succeed" that there is another possibility. That the John Dunbar who died in 1709 in MD may have been John Dunbarr (son of John Dunbarr of Glascow, Scotland) who arrived as an indentured apprentice to a tailor in Maryland in 1684 at the age of 22. Has anyone found any "proof" of the connection usually assumed between William and John Dunbar? So far I have not found any "proof" for either of the possible father's for John Dunbar and I would be so appreciative of any help anyone can give me on this. It is a brickwall that is driving me nuts. Thank you Shirley Smith candy50lady@yahho.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
