You and Debra have been very generous. If I understand it correctly, Your info seems to rule out my Sarah being connected to the Cumberland John Dunbar in the 1790 census. Sarah Dunbar apparently married John Christy in 1768 or 1769 based on birth of 1st child in 1770. Her husband was born in 1744 and arrived in America in 1762. Of Sarah, there are no reliable dates. In the early histories of Butler County where she moved in late 1700's, she is described as very tall and lived to a ripe old age. No grave is known. The Christy family, father Andrew 1720, sons John 1744 and James 1752 and daughter Ann 1748 were likely living somewhere for a short time before moving to Westmoreland. James married Mary Campbell and Ann married Mary's brother John. There's some still to be proven conclusively evidence that John and Mary Campbell were from Cumberland County. If I'm correct in assuming that your info rules out Cumberland County, I should look in Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia or York, where the other Dunbar families are located in 1790. My focus is on PA as that's where the Christy family came to in 1762. Thanks again for your help. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. One of my Ancestors born to William and Catherine Dunbar at Meeting House Springs which is around what is now Carlisle, Pa in 1730. At some of the children are show as being born in Lancaster Co, which was formed out of Chester County sometime around the 1730 or earlier. Some shown as born in Cumberland Co which Lancster became in 1750. You mentioned Westmoreland Co in 1790 there no Dunbar's that I have found in that county. You mentioned John in Cumberland who was one of the son's William & Catherine and Sarahs brother. There where 10 children in that Dunbar group. In 1790 some of them may have been living in Westmoreland by then. Our Sarah however did not marry John Christy, but did marry John Young and the moved to Virgina. I have found youngs in Virgina and a John who had a John Jr and also a daughter Sarah but no wife mentioned. Also he was born later then Sarah's husband should have been! . I hope this help's and if I can be of further help feel free to contact me. William T.(Billy) Dunbar Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: JohnKlingel Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunbar/1079.2.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Debra, the map you suggested was quite interesting. In the 1790 census, there are no Dunbars in Westmoreland Co. In fact there are only 7 households in PA. One of them is a John Dunbar in Cumberland County. I think this is a possible brother of my Sarah and the father may be in the household as well. There's a strong possibilty that Sarah's husband John Christy came from Cumberland County. So far, my research in Cumberland Co. hasn't yielded anything. Westmoreland Co. has very poor records and doesn't appear to have an active genealogy society. Your reply to my 1st posting were extremely interesting. So far, I still haven't found her parents. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hosiah Dunbar", father of Simeon T. on the census record, is Hosea Ballou Dunbar, then "D. Hosiah" and "Daniel H." are not the same man. They are distant cousins. This census record then contains a couple of errors--Hosea's name and birthplace are both questionable. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
