Author: nocontact11111 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunbar/1133/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information on the family of Paul Laurence Dunbar. My Dunbar family was once held in slavery in Kentucky. Our elders have said since the 1800s that we were the family of Paul Laurence Dunbar and that we were taken from Kentucky to other areas of the south during slavery. Some of the elders of the family do resemble Paul Laurence. Any information anyone could pass along would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Author: DebraNowell Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunbar/1117.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Earlene, I represent the Dunbar DNA Project where we utilize Y-DNA to make genetic genealogy connections. Like surnames, Y-DNA is passed down, virtually unchanged from father to son to son, century after century. Once a Dunbar has a DNA match, they can focus their traditional research with only those people they're genetically related to. You can participate in our Project if you know any living males with the Dunbar surname from your family line and get them tested. My Dunbar family dates back to the 1700's in Bucks County PA, moves on to NYC in the early 1800's and then to Ohio in the 1850's. We've remained in Ohio since. We have several Dunbar's who've submitted their pedigrees that might be of help to you. Please visit your Patriarchs page to find them: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/dunbar/pats I hope you'll join this very exciting Project. You can find out more information about DNA testing by visiting our website: www.dunbardna.org Or contact me at: dunbardna AT gmail.com Sincerely, Debra Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Barbara, Re your <I am sure there is a line of Dunbar's who were associated with the Duncan <Dunbar line (shipping magnate; family originated in Forres (sp?) Morayshire <Scotland)came to Australia. I would be interested to hear of your findings. As you use the word 'associated' I assume that you know there is no direct male link to Australia - the two sons of Duncan (senior) died unmarried. Duncan the millionaire ship owner died in London and his brother John died at Sea Park, Morayshire. 'Forres' is correct. The grandfather of shipping magnate Duncan was a farmer at Balnageith. There is now an airfield and housing at Balnageith within the boundaries of Forres. Pat Patrick. R. L. Dunbar Organiser, Dunbar Family Society, UK Member, Aberdeen & NE Scotland FHS. I was reading over the handwritten note on the page from the Thurston book and I realized the handwriting for the last name of Joseph's wife, Anne Dunbar, was different than the note "dau. of Thomas & Elizabeth" etc. in the margin. I could see that that note referred to Sarah Thaxter who was married to Thomas Thurston. I have found many people on the Internet who know Anne's last name but not who her parents are. I am really sorry I misled you on this. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks for any help you can give me. Joseph Thurston left Mass. and went to Jamaica, Queens, Long Island, NY. He married Anne Dunbar Foster there. I found in Abstracts of Wills "Whereas Thomas Foster, heretofore of Rustdorp, alias Jamaica, upon Long Island, did in his will appoint his widow executrix, and she having married Joseph Thurston," they are confirmed as executors, August 5, 1671. Joseph Thurston died in 169l and Anne Thurston's will was probated Jan. 31, 1721. Mary Lou Fisher Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ndelucia_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunbar/1127/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Martha b.1839, married John Milton Judd 23 Oct 1855. John Milton Judd relocated from MA to Ripon with his parents James Judd & Amanda Brewster. Because this is a long established New England family, (Wm Brewster, Mayflower and Thomas Judd, Speedwell 1632) I'm curious what drew them to Wisconsin and ultimately Chicago. If anyone knows of the family and can add any information, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, it would obviously be good to confirm the information which I drew from the "Brewster Genealogy" as published books are not always correct. Census records also place the family there. Hope we can make a connection! Nanette Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
