Hi, I just joined and need assistance. First let me explain, I am a Dunbar descendant. I descend from John Dunbar b. 1701, Brechin Parish, Scotland, and his wife Mary Anderson they married 1727 in Boston MA. Their daughter, Eleanor (Ellen) Dunbar b. 1730 Boston, Massachusetts married Joseph William Howe b. 1730 in England. If anyone is interested I'll share the Dunbar or Howe line to me. Now here is the problem. Reciently I tested at 23andme.com for their ancestry test (refered to as RF). I can explain the test if anyone is interested. To continue, this test uses the autosomal and X chromosomes and measures segments which are compared to other peoples tests. A cousin found from this test thinks we may share being Dunbar descendants. I have not researched John and Mary's other children's lines, so I can not identify if my cousin's line come from my lines ancestors. Here is her information: Mary Ann Dunbar (b. 6May1815, Westbridge, Mass; d. 23Feb1856 in Conn.) married John Spencer Williams (b29 Jun 1815, d.24 Jan 1891) It is believed that her parents are: Samuel Dunbar (b. 23 Feb 1771 (we think in Conn or Mass), d. 5 Feb 1846 (maybe in Sly, Conn?) He married Amy __?__Amy, b. 1780, d.1 May 1862, age 82. Can anyone help with either lineage? I want to try to see if her Samuel might descend from my John. I would love additional information on either line even if they don't connect. thank you Regards Nelda GOONS 5139 - Gilpin My websites : http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/

This appeared in the June 4, 1901 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier-Gazette in the "In Social Circles" column: "Miss Mabel Dunbar, formerly of this city, has recently graduated from Miss Norton's school in Portland, and has had the honor of being valedictorian. She will teach a kindergarten school in Portland during the summer, and on the reopening of Miss Norton's school will become a permanent member of the faculty. Miss Dunbar's success in her chosen line of work is the bearing out of the excellent promise she gave while a member of the Rockland High school, and will be hailed with pleasure by her many friends in this section."
