Can anyone help me please? I have downloaded images for a couple of death register entries from ScotlandsPeople that have set me thinking and I'd welcome any information from other listers about the families involved. Mt main interest is in the PORTEOUS family so I can offer quite a bit of information about the descendants of these two if anyone is interested. Firstly John PORTEOUS, a joiner, died on 25 March 1867 aged 70 at Cleughfoot, Dryfesdale of 'Heart Disease Many Months'. His son Richard (a draper) travelled from Wolverhampton to register the death on 29 March. John's parents are listed as John PORTEOUS (a farmer) and Rachel HETHERINGTON (I think! That's what it looks like). John's wife Agnes WHITE died on 8 December 1874 aged 74 at Closehead, Annan. The informant was her son-in-law John Hastings, husband of her daughter Rachael. Agnes's parents were Robert WHITE (a farmer) and Jane JARDINE. This is the first I have heard of the Hetheringtons so I'd be grateful of any clues about connections for this side of the family or, indeed, any more clues about John's parents. I know there has also been a lot of interest on the D&G list about the JARDINE name so I'd welcome any clues about where Jane Jardine fits. Thanks a lot Trevor Glenton
