Hi Trevor I have a record of John PORTEOUS (1792-1867) m Agnes WHITE (1801-after 1851). I would be interested in what you have regarding John and his family, as some of your information tallies with that held on the Porteous Associates database, and some appears to differ. There are yet more links with the Jardine family, in that John's father's first wife (his stepmother) was Mary JARDINE (b about 1755) and his paternal grandmother was Grizzel JARDINE (b 1730). There appear to be many historical links between the two families of Porteous and Jardine, and it would be interesting to try and work out how these two in particular are connected. I am exploring the movement of the Porteous family from its original home in Peeblesshire to Dumfriesshire (especially Annandale and Applegarth, where Agnes was born), and the eventual emigration of many members of the family to England, and later to other parts of the world.
