I wonder whether the Murray family, about whom a recent question was raised, are the Murrays of Murraythwaite - in Cummertrees parish. In other words, not "of Dumfries", but of Cummertrees, Dumfriesshire. The Murray enclosure in Repentance Tower burial ground in the parish, has for example In memory of William Murray Esq of Murraythwaite and Mrs Elizabeth Dalrymple his wife who survived him many years and died on 11 December 1779 aged 79 years (Memorials in Annandale, March 1964) At the time of the 1841 census John Dalrymple Murray, aged about 40, was in residence (Cummertrees No.6 district).
