In a book called "the Royal Four Towns of Lochmaben" by Anne Fairn, ...........Robert Hannah is named as the schoolmaster of Hightae between 1812 and 1862 and seems to have been preceded by Francis McCLellan. there is no James Jardine in the index. Irene (or anyone else who can help), Thanks for the email back. I am researching the possibility that James Jardine was a "schoolmaster" because that is the occupation stated for him on his daughter Janet Millar (nee Jardine)'s Statutory Death Record. In the 1851 Census, it states James was born in Lochmaben (as James, his daughter Janet and his Millar grandchildren lived in his house, I think it is definitely the right census entry). I had thought he was born in Hightae, but I have not kept track of what record (if any) caused me to believe that. I guess that I jumped to a conclusion that he worked as a schoolmaster in Hightae. It must have been somewhere else. According to the Census, he would have been born in 1772. So I am looking between the years of 1787 and 1845. Anyway, I am being long winded to someone who has already tried to help me. Do you have any ideas were else I might look? Thanks for your help.
