The two Hallidays are buried in the same grave. All three were shot in 1685. Balmaghie is better known as the burial place of S.R. Crockett (1859-1914) the well-known author of "The Raiders" and "Dark o' the Moon" which were inspired by Galloway's history and landscapes. A memorial to Crockett stands on raised ground at the north end of Laurieston village.
