Hi All, Does anyone on the list know of a German prisoner of war who worked on Awhirk Farm then inherited the farm. He may have died just a couple of years ago. Many thanks for any information you maybe able to pass on. Sheena.

That may have some wrong information. In 1989 we visited Awhirk farm (Ardwell parish) and it was run by a cousin of ours, Jackie McLean. He had run it for some time but I know has since passed away. He is a distant cousin of my husband's family - there have been McLean's running that farm for quite some time. My husband's gr-great-grandfather was living there in 1920 when he died and Jackie remembered hearing about him. Jackie's father was running it then. They were tenant farmer's (dairy farm) and when Jackie died he had girls and I suppose the owner has found new tenants. From what I have heard, Jackie's wife may still be living and attending Ardwell church. You might contact the minister there to see if she's still there. I believe a year ago I was in contact with the clerk and he was going to pass on my regards to her. I have also heard that there are two Awhirks - so you might want to check that out as well.
