Hi List; I was surprised and saddened to learn that the online "Statistical Accounts of Scotland" is now a subscription service. Someone obviously recognized a way to make a quid or two. And it doesn't come cheap either - £60 for those outside the UK. Cheers! Malcolm Cheers! Malcolm
This is off-topic, but I was wondering if what others thought about this. I received an email on the subject transfer. While I know this will give access to more information in one spot, I have mixed emotions about it. I like the Scottish documents website and found it easy to use. I liked being able to narrow down my search before being asked to pay a fee. The Scotlandspeople website has more information, but I didn't like having to logon and immediately pay a fee. I appreciate the website affords access to information I would otherwise have to hire a researcher to review, but I found that I quickly went through the credits I purchased because a credit was required to look at nearly every page. I personally plan to use the Scottish documents website as much as I can before the merger sometime in 2006. Sharon Shumate Austin, TX
