    3. Hi, David - Is the BATH referred to in the death notice the Bath in Somersetshire, England, or another? There are several in the US, so I am curious as to which is indicated. If it is the Bath in England, does anyone else with D&G roots have family members who moved to that area (Bath and environs) between 1790 and about 1830? I do, have noticed a couple other families that have, and wonder if this was a general trend at that time, for economic, religious or political reasons? Thanks - Muff On Sunday, September 26, 2004, at 11:05 AM, DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: Thomas Grierson, Esquire, of Larbreck Farm, parish of > Irongray, near Dumfries, SCT. > > > You might find this fasinating, the British viewed the death of > Loyalist (Colonel) Grierson in 1781 (date of death confirmed by the > article) as an Assassination! 3. Dear Muff, Really not more than a guess. I would think that between 1790's and 1830's was a time when the spa at Bath started to become a "thing". I think it was in the early 19th century that british nobles and gentry started to "take the waters" at Bath and Cheltenham Spa. Bath would have increased in size substantially. No doubt they imported serving people and labourers in alot of fields. But, like I say, not much more than a guess.
