Hi....I have just rejoined the Dumfries list after retiring from the workforce in August...I hope there will now be more time for Genealogy! My interests are the Hendersons and Richardsons in Dumfrieshire. HENDERSON Alexander Henderson was born in 1751 in Maxwellton, Glencairn. He married Margaret Hoatson who was born in Maxwellton in 1756. Their son Samuel Henderson, born in 1786 in Maxwellton, Glencairn, married Agnes Stitt. Their son David Henderson born in Glencairn in 1828, married Janet Newlands Porteous in Locharbriggs in 1864. They farmed at Damhead Farm. David & Janet's son James Porteous Henderson was born in Tinwald in 1865. RICHARDSON Robert Richardson & Mary Richardson married in Torthorwald in 1764. Their som William Richardson married Liallias Thomson Potter in Torthorwald in 1797. Their son James Richardson married Jane Anderson in Caerlaverock in 1853. James died at Cotland, and Jane at Hartbush in Tinwald. James & Jane's daughter Mary was born in 1857, and married James Porteous Henderson in 1895 at Cotland Hill, Tinwald. I have researched my Hewetson family back to the 1600's in Dumfries and there are many, many variants of the name as you would have found. I haven't looked for others of your family but you may find something of interest there.
