    3. There was constant traffic across from the SW of Scotland to Ireland. The crossing is shorter than the English channel in places. Travel by road was a nightmare and there were no trains of course until later on. Havent checked but would guess about 1840s. So for someone eg in 1775, they would consider it easier to get to Ireland than to Edinburgh. If you can find the TOOLANs alive and kicking in the 1851 census that of course should give their places of birth.
