Hello David, Noticed that you are researching the COWAN family in Dumfries. Perhaps, we have a connection. I have a John Cowan (1789-1869) who married in Moffatt, Dumfries before 1819 Elizabeth HASTIE (1795-1877). They had 8 children, all born in Moffatt (Janet, Peter, Jane, Robert,Alice, Elizabeth, John and Agnes). When Agnes was an infant, the entire family emigrated to St. John's, Nfld where other COWAN relatives were already living. Jane COWAN was my ggm. Do any of these names seem familiar?
