Following is from the Carlisle Patriot: September 23rd 1843 On the 20th inst, at Beck, in the parish of Kirkandrews on Esk, Elizabeth, widow of the late Mr William Beattie, farmer, Torquhoun, Dumfriesshire, and mother of Mr John Beattie, farmer, Beck, aged 100 years and a few weeks. She was the oldest individual in Longtown when the last census was taken. Rene Anderson
