Hi May, Janet MURRAY born bet 1829/1831 in Hoddam,Dumfries. Parents John MURRAY & Jane EVANS. Janet MURRAY married Thomas BOYD (born abt 1823 in Ireland) have every census listing for her from 1851 to 1901 then death certificate 19 Jan 1915. Janet MURRAY & Thomas BOYD had the following children: Hugh BOYD b abt 1847 died 17 Dec 1879 (unmarried). Margaret BOYD b abt 1850 had 2 illegitimate children James Murray BOYD b 4 Nov 1867 & Isabella Murray BOYD b 5 Sep 1872. Margaret later married Andrew SCOTT in Carlisle on 22 May 1875. Next Janet MURRAY & Thomas BOYD had a baby girl b abt May 1851 who wasn't baptised on the 1851 census (possibly Janet). Mary ann BOYD b abt 1853 married aft 1871 to John McDonald, Mary died 21 Jun 1903. James Murray BOYD is my great grandfather. I have nothing on Janet JOHNSTONE other than she married Hugh MURRAY b abt 1843 they married possibly abt 1866/67. Hi Steve, I can't find anything in my records that would connect my MURRAYs to yours. But I'll keep your email in case something crops up. Interesting that you have a John McDONALD, so have I, and I believe they are one and the same person. John's wife's name was Mary Ann and I think that would be too much of a coincidence in such a small community as Ecclefechan. Do you have the names of their children?
