My grandfather, James Smith Kynnersley, was sent from Salford to Dumfries in 1899, aged 9, to live with his aunt after the death of his parents. His aunt Margaret Smith lived in Castle Street. My mother would like to find out which school he went to. Does anyone with a knowledge of Dumfrie town have any idea which schools were in the Castle Street area at that time ? He would have attended school from 1899 to about 1905 I think. Did children change schools at 11 or so in those days? I would apprcsiate anone's ideas so that I can narrow down my search a bit! I believe the Ewart Library has some school records (?) My grandfather waws sent to Dumfries from Manchester in 1899 aged 9 to li= ve with an aunt, following the death of his parents. I would really like to find out which school he went to. They lived in Castle Street., so I pres= ume it would have been somewhere reasonably near. Does anyone have any knowledge of schools which were in the vicinity at that time? Would he have changed schools at 11 or so? He told my mother it was a "public school". Was this state school in Scot= land? Also, when did children normally leave school in Scotland in those days? I would be very grateful for a bit of advice to narrow down my search. I understand that the Ewart Library has school records. Thanks very much Alison __________________________________________________________________ Get Tiscali Broadband From =3DA315:99 http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/broadbandhome/ __________________________________________________________________ Get Tiscali Broadband From =3DA315:99 http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/broadbandhome/ __________________________________________________________________ Get Tiscali Broadband From =A315:99 http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/broadbandhome/ --========/4157BB31000183C3/mk-cpfrontend.uk.tiscali.com-- ------=_NextPart_000_569a_6a29_107b--
