My grandfather, James Smith Kynnersley, was sent from Salford to Dumfries in 1899, aged 9, to live with his aunt after the death of his parents. His aunt Margaret Smith lived in Castle Street. My mother would like to find out which school he went to. Does anyone with a knowledge of Dumfrie town have any idea which schools were in the Castle Street area at that time ? He would have attended school from 1899 to about 1905 I think. Did children change schools at 11 or so in those days? I would apprcsiate anone's ideas so that I can narrow down my search a bit! I believe the Ewart Library has some school records (?)
