    3. G'day Muff, I am probably teaching granny to suck eggs but I assume you are aware of www.old-maps.co.uk . Generally the maps are vintage 1850-60s but I have found them most useful for farms etc. vintage 1841 census. I have to go via the nearest "town" and then look closely at the map to find the likely farm but it usually works even though a bit time consuming. A new resource that I recently found - maybe from someone on this list - is http://www.rcahms.gov.uk/ - The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS). Look at their databases. CANMORE Which is linked to PASTMAP. PASTMAP displays the location of: . listed buildings . the boundaries of legally protected ('scheduled') ancient monuments . every site, building, maritime feature or find recorded in Canmore I have found places mentioned in 17th - 18th - 19th C testaments shown as some form of 'scheduled' site with OS coordinates and a dot on a modern map showing where they are. I have no "field" experience in using the results but would be interested to know if they work for you as I expect to make the family history pilgrimage in the next few years providing I can still hobble around ;-).
