Dear listers , I am new to this list as I have recently traced my family back to this part of the world. I have a Robert Murray b.circa 1813 Durisdeer whose parents were James MURRAY b. circa 1790 and Margaret b. 1789. I believe that James and Margaret were married in Dumfries parish on 16/Feb/1812 which if correct would mean that Margaret,s maiden name would be DICKSON. On the marriage record James Murray is said to be of the parish of Ruthwell. There were 4 children other than Robert all born in "Scotland" according to various census entries from County Durham.These were:- James Murray b.circa 1812 Jane Murray b.1818/19 Grace Murray b. 1823 Gordon Murray b. 1826 I have have looked for all of these entries on the ScotlandsPeople site and have been unable to find any trace of these people even using very general searches of the Old Parish Records. I therefore have a couple of questions for listers researching in this location. Firstly is it likely that none of their births would appear on the OPR'S.? Under what circumstances would the entries not appear? I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who recognises any of the names on the list or who can assist in any way with locating these births.
