This is part of the larger UK FreeCEN Project, which aims to enable researchers to view transcripts of UK Censuses between the years 1841 and 1891 freely online. Searches are possible across parish and county borders, speeding up the search for our ancestors. At the time of the earlier FreeCen appeals for Wigtown and Kirkcudbright census transcribers it was pointed out that DGFHS have already published booklets covering all three counties. While these are not FREE they don't cost very much more than the cost of printing them. I'm not sure it makes sense to repeat the process. Wouldn't it be more useful to produce a new resource by transcribing the 71, 91 or 101? I read that the aim is to be able to make County wide searches which aren't available at present. To that I have to say that DGFHS are looking into producing a CD version that would make Region wide possible (i.e. all three Counties). Does it make sense to duplicate work here and reinvent wheels? 3. Hello List, Sandy wrote the 1841 census of Dumfries , KKD and Wigtown are available in printed form , I would be grateful for cost and address please. As I live in New Zealand and do not have a credit card I intend asking a relative who lives in UK and is to visit me next year to purchase the booklet on my behalf . Would Keir be included in the 1841 census? I am hoping to find William Irving's parents , he married Margaret Ross 1806 in Dalton , I don't know his birth or death dates , but have high hopes . William's son Christopher was born in Keir 1809, my Gr. grandfather. Thank you , Margaret in NZ.

    3. Hi Margaret, I don't know if you're aware that you don't need to use a credit card to order the Census booklets, a Money Order is acceptable. Go to www.dgfhs.org.uk and click on Publications on the left side of the page. Everything is listed along with wt and price and on the upper right hand corner you can access Order Form and Postage Rates Table. (All publications available by mail order.) Good luck - May <<Sandy wrote the 1841 census of Dumfries , KKD and Wigtown are available in printed form , I would be grateful for cost and address please.
