Hi Mark The National Archives in Edinburgh houses all the main records in Scotland. However, the nearest you will get to fulfilling your requirements are in the Ewart Library, Dumfries. Concentrate on the RC Reid collection. You might also want to visit the Dumfries Archive Centre but you need to know what you are looking for. Check out http://archives.dumgal.gov.uk:8814/ Probably your best bet for a B & B is Glencairn Guest House, literally only 80 yards from the Ewart Library. http://go.to/glencairn Regards Ian A McClumpha Researching Family History in Dumfries & Galloway ~ and beyond. I live in the USA and FINALLY able to visit Scotland for a week. First of all I am researching the HOLLIDAY surname and I believe the came from the area around Annan. So my question is..... Since I only have a short week, where are the best places to researcher older records (early to mid 1700's). A place that has a vast collection and or that are open longer hours? Second, Anybody know of a comfortable bed and breakfast around the dumfries area? Hopefully close to where I will be do my research. Thank You!!!
