    3. Mike, Firstly in my personal opinion there is unlikely to be any connection between the given name Francis and the surname of Fraser. I have not found a Francis Gracie. According to McDowall (Memorials of St Michaels, pub. 1876) James Gracie was buried in what has become to be known as "Poets' Corner" (p80) i.e. in that part of the graveyard where the body of Robert Burns was first interred. On pages 82 and 83 there are quite a lot of details about James Gracie. It is stated that he died on the 23rd March 1814 at the age of 58. For a number of years he was a magistrate holding the office of the Treasurer and Dean of Guild. On the same monument:- "his wife Jean Cowan, who died 15 October 1836, aged 88; niece of Mary Wilson of Kelton, wife of William Kirkpatrick of Conheath, and great grandmother of of Eugenie, Empress of the French; ..." Several of their children are also mentioned. Eunice Smith Tel: 0131 336 2013
