Hi Les, Have you had a look on Scotlandspeople? I have found ancestry.com good for census, but they do not have images of the Scotland census. Anyway, I had a look on Scotlandspeople ( I have a few credits left which are due to expire shortly). The 1871 Census of Scotland shows a William Johnston, draper, aged 50, living in Dalry, Ayr. His place of birth is Lanarkshire, Glasgow. His wife, Elizabeth, was born in Buteshire, Rothesay. Her age is not clear as it is crossed over. Regards, Steve.
that's very interesting. can you see how 'Rothesay' could turn into "Ketting"? The line over the age could explain how Elizabeth failed to get any older in 20 years. Could the first figure be a 5?
