    1. [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Robison/Sharpe(e) Research

    3. Hi to clever Researchers, I guess every Researcher has a particular ancestor who "niggles" away for decades. I have one, my g.g. grandfather William Robison. William Robison born abt. 1812 Kirkcudbright (parents unknown to date) has been a "challenge" for years. I have been unsuccessful finding his baptism, birth, or marriage to Elizabeth Sharp(e) of Dumfriesshire. Fortunately I have traced him (& subsequent expanding family) through Census Records from 1841 as Robeen (sic) in Urr, 1851 Buittle and so forth. His wife Elizabeth Sharp(e) ancestry is traced back many generations. She died 16 Feb 1885 and is buried at Lockerbie Garden of Remembrance and I have been priviliged to visit her grave twice. From Elizabeth's headstone, it is inscribed that her husband William Robison died at Allison's Bank Bar. FINALLY, I found his Death - in England. He was working as a Toll Keeper (Allison's Bank- near Gretna?), was injured and died as a result ... at Carlisle Hospital on 22.11.1868. He is not buried at the Carlisle Cemetery but I have been informed that he may be buried at a small cemetery in the vicinity of the border - perhaps Arthuret, near Longtown or suchlike. His legacy continues in my case: -- In 1876, my great grandfather John Robison married Margaret Paterson/Patterson at Lochmaben and emigrated to Queensland, Australia. I have many photographs of the Robison/Sharpe family and Patterson/Armstrong family taken in Scotland and would love to positively identify them and share with anyone connected. From the photos, I do believe that one of William and Elizabeth's son emigrated to United States. Also "a" son of James Patterson and Mary Armstrong emigrated to New Zealand. In conclusion, DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BIRTHRIGHT OF WILLIAM ROBISON AT KIRKCUDBRIGHT? SIMILARLY, ANY KNOWLEDGE OF HIS BURIAL PLACE? ANY INFORMATION WITH REGARDS TO ANY CONNECTION WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED. Pam Eaton (Australia). _________________________________________________________________ Time for change?
