    1. [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] BARNGLIES, BARNGLIESH and BARNGLIESHEAD - CANONBIE
    2. Martin Graham
    3. Fascinating. Now I know that the spelling changed I am making real progress. Thank you. In case anyone else is interested in the minutiae: BARNGLIES (no "H") (OS landranger sheet 85 GR 328 777) is North of Gretna and West of CANONBIE, up the road from BOGRA, BOGRIE and "TOWER of SARK". BARNGLIESHEAD lies a little further North. 1925 On the OS popular edition map the same place is BARNGLEISH. (with an "H") and 1866-1869 OS Old series BARNGLEISH.(with an "H") Martin Dorset, England ----- Original Message ----- From: "Staffmail" <colinwarwick@talktalk.net> Martin, Assuming that Barngleish is now Barnglies, it is about 5 miles west of Canonbie. http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/ type in Canonbie, three clicks to the west. My GGGgrandparents William Warwick (1750 - bef.1827) and Agnes Hill (17556 - 1827) were married there on 23 Feb 1775. Colin From: "Martin Graham" <mgraham@rmplc.co.uk> Samuel Graham b. abt 1717 and Mary Maitland b. abt 1721 CANONBIE They appear to have four children born at BARNGLEISH, CANONBIE, Dumfriesshire GRIZEL GRAHAM bap 10 Oct 1743 KATHERINE GRAHAM bap. 5 Jul 1745 PETER GRAHAM bap. 17 Dec 1747 and unnamed Graham daughter "MISS GRAHAM" bap. 27 Jan 1750 Five questions: 1.) Can anyone help with birth dates or places and marriage date of Samuel and Mary? 2.) Does anyone know anything else about them or their children? 3.) Do you know where BARNGLEISH is? 4.) Why would a daughter be unnamed at baptism? 5.) Is it possible or probable that the Peter Graham (below) who married in Canonbie (and is buried there) is the same person as the Peter Graham bap 17 Dec 1747? "Erected in memory of Peter Graham who died at Cubbyhill 4th December 1825 in the 86th year of his age" Three unlikely explanations: 1.) Peter was 7 or 8 years old when baptized. (Is that likely?) 2.) The headstone is not accurate. (Unlikely?) 3.) or this is the wrong Peter? Any thoughts, corrections or pointers would be really welcome. Martin, Dorset, England.
