Looking for information related to James and Elizabeth (Stoddard) Ballentine, parents of William Ballentine.  William was born abt. 1826-1828 Dunfrieshire Scotland.  Elizabeth died when William was a very small boy.  He went to live with his grandfather (name unknown) until age ten, then lived with a Mrs. Carson in the sheep raising area of the Scoittish Hills until age 15.  He then becomed apprenticed to a Blacksmith shop (location unknown) until he could save enough money for passage to America.  He sailed for America in 1847.
