    1. [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Re HEWATSEN and The wreck of Brig GOOD INTENT 1815
    2. Tricia and Trevor Steer
    3. 1815 The brig "GOOD INTENT" of Maryport, a collier, (HEWAT, master) It was wrecked about 2 miles east of the mouth of the River Dee The ship was totally lost and 3 men drowned I am searching for details of this shipwreck. The only listing I have found states that 3 men were lost. No other details. I really would like some advice please, as to how I can find the names of these 3 men. I have seen a will dated 1826 for a William HEWATSEN, part owner of the Good Intent. He leaves 10 pounds to his grandson William, son of his dead son William. I'm wondering whether that dead son was one of the shipwreck victims. My Gt Gt Grandmother was Agnes GUTHRIE, nee Agnes HEWETSON who died in Australia in 1899. She was supposedly born in Troon in 1826, but I can find no record of her birth. Her death certificate states that her father was William HEWITSON, Master Mariner and her Mother Agnes McEWAN. Other known variations of this family's surname are HEWATSON, HEWITSON, HOWATSON. I really have hit a brick wall with this family. I will be very grateful for any help. Tricia In very wet Queensland
