    3. I am searching for information on JOSEPH CRICHTON was born Abt. 1740; located in Dumfries for the baptisms of four children at St. Michaels. Children of JOSEPH CRICHTON are: i. DAVID CRICHTON, baptized 16 Jun 1765, Dumfries ii. WILLIAM CRICHTON, baptized 21 Feb 1768, Dumfries iii. SARAH CRICHTON, baptized 30 Jun 1771, Dumfries iv.JOHN CRICHTON, baptized 27 Jun 1773, Dumfries A possible family member may be been JOSEPH CRICHTON who married JEAN GORDON in an irregular marriage 26 APR 1806 Troqueer, Kirkcudbright. Children baptized at Kirkmahoe, Dumfries: Jane Crichton 1 June 1808 Henrietta Crichton 22 Dec 1809 Elizabeth Crichton 21 November 1813 Elizabeth L. Creighton 19 June 1815 Janet Crichton 29 June 1817 Also there was a Joseph Crichton listed in the Personal-names on the Pigot & Co. Directory for Dumfries & Maxwelltown 1825/26 as House Surgeon & Clerk to D&G Infirmary Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    3. I note in the book of Kirkpatrick-Durham that a James Crichton was the proprietor of a property called Crofts in 1819. A side note states that he is thought to be Dr James Crichton of Friars Carse who died in 1823 leaving £100,000 which was adopted by his trustees for the foundation and endowment of the Crichton Royal Institution at Dumfries. In the same book in the 1680s a John Creichton was a covenanter in "Kirkpatrick" and was transported to the plantations where he was thought to have ended his days as a slave. Hope this is of interest.
