    2. Hello list, Does anyone have any idea when the law of primogeniture was abolished in Scotland. This is the law that restricted inheritance of land (particularly farmland) to the eldest surviving son, or failing that, eldest surviving daughter. I am particularly interested in a farm where the farmer (my ggrandfather) died in 1891. I suspect that it was probably a tenant farm but would like to confirm. Alternatively, Is there any other way I can determine ownership of the farm? thanks Neil Perth, Aus *I a^m cl24ng my k*ey9b0$rd

    3. Look at Registers of Scotland www.ros.gov.uk They will look for recent (post 1900) transactions involving your property for a fee (usually under £10) and often you will get older info as well. Of course for all the details, you have to consult sassines in NAS, Edinburgh. But ROS is a quick and cheap source if you are outside Scotland. 3. Why not name the farm on here? Someone might know if it was part of an estate or have relatives who farmed there - or even look it up in some resource or other.
