While trying to find pics/videos of places my ancestors worked/lived I came upon a Whitehill Cottage, Castle Douglas, which is noted as a holiday cottage. Perhaps those of you familiar with the area can help me... My question is: Could this be one in the same, or part of, Whitehill Cottages, Dumfries in which farm workers may have lived? My g'mother, Mary Campbell Mcdonald was born at Whitehill Cottages, Dumfries in April of 1898. Her family members were all labourers. Thanks so much! Mary Paladin PA; USA

Hello Mary There is a Whitehill Farm on the borders of Sanquhar and Kirkconnel, which is in Dumfries. If you check the registration district for Mary McDonald' birthand the registration district is one of these, then this is likely the correct location. Myy great grandfather, Samuel Hiddleston, lived in Whitehill Cottages on this farm, where he was a ploughman and later foreman. He died in 1903, so was more than likely there at the same time as your folk. The census would help to confirm this. His children were all registered in Kirkconnel.
