Good morning from New Zealand. Seeking information on John JOHNSTON (ca 1813-1852), born in Dumfries, Scotland, son of John Johnston - http://sites.google.com/site/lyndaslot/our-lot/combined-family-names/johnston2 John jnr married English woman Rebecca SHAW from Cheshire in 1841 in Cheshire. The marriage certificate states his father to have been John Johnston, traveller; John jnr's profession also was "Traveller". In the 1841 census John & Rebecca were in High Street, Annan, Dumfries with Jane BYERS (70), Jane MARS (20) & John MARSHALL (35). John's profession was "Ind. means". In 1851 they were in England and John's profession was "General agent". John died in 1852 in Hyde, Cheshire. It appears John's siblings also ventured to England. His brother Thomas shows in the 1841 to 1861 census as a tailor. Siblings Ann Johnston, Lucy Johnston, Janet Johnston show in different England censuses but not every census. Armstrong & Murray are two other surnames that appear with Thomas Johnston in the censuses. If anyone has links with these Johnstons from Dumfries, I would love to hear from you. Cheers, Lynda
