I have a Janet Johnston, born about 1800 in Ruthwell, according to the censuses. On her death certificate 1886 her parents were named as John Johnston, merchant seaman, and Mary.... Mind you she was 86yrs, so the parents could be just a guess. There is not record of her birth/baptism in Ruthwell, or any other children born to a John and Mary around that time. Just had a thought, I might look for any other Johnstons born around that time, and being born in Ruthwell. When I started all his, there were no censuses available on line, just trawling through the LDS films. Should be easier now. Kay Perth, Australia
