Is there any DNA testing on direct male descendants of John JOHNSTON? -- Aaron On Wed, Feb 23, 2011 at 10:45 AM, Lynda's Lot <[email protected]> wrote: > Good morning from New Zealand. > > Seeking information on John JOHNSTON (ca 1813-1852), born in Dumfries, > Scotland, son of John Johnston - > http://sites.google.com/site/lyndaslot/our-lot/combined-family-names/johnston2
Aaron, not that I'm aware. It's a very good idea to have a male Johnston in your line have his Y-DNA tested. There are over 30 haplogroups now so that will give you some idea of the diversity that is there. The Y-DNA test helps to narrow it down significantly. Cliff. Hi Cliff With such a common name, I've been trying to persuade an English direct male descendant of John Johnston to have a Y-DNA test done. I'll have to metaphorically twist his arm a bit more! Thanks, Lynda On 24 February 2011 11:12, Cliff. Johnston <[email protected]> wrote: > It's a very good idea to have a male Johnston in your line have his Y-DNA > tested. For anyone within reach of Lockerbie, the Earl of Annandale & Hartfell is giving a talk on the "Johnstones of that Ilk and Annandale" tomorrow (Friday 25 February). The venue is Lockerbie Town Hall and the talk begins at 7.30pm. Entrance is free, although a collection will be taken in aid of the Friends of Annandale & Eskdale Museums. Rene
Any chance that someone could record Lord Annandale's talk and make it available? Cliff.
