    1. Re: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY Digest, Vol 6, Issue 145
    2. Anne Wilson
    3. I am looking for the family of Jean/Jane Johnston(e) b. ab. 1748 in Moffat, d. 1814, married James Edgar ab. 1778. Her parents may be James Johnstone, Wright in Moffat, and Mary Ewart. Their son, John, had a daughter Jessie/Janet Edgar who married George Johstone b. 1830 in Moffat, d. 1913 in Otago, NZ. George Johnstone and Jessie Edgar had a son George Carruthers Johnstone, suggesting that his grandmother may have been a Carruthers. Anyone? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Friday, December 16, 2011 8:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY Digest, Vol 6, Issue 145 Today's Topics: 1. My nearest Johnstone is Sophia Johnstone c1715 b Kirkpatrick Juxta married George Carruthers 1733 Her Parents David Johnstone c1692 Beattock death 1750 Kirkpatrick Juxta and Jean Copland. His parents ? David Johnstone death 1705 Sophia's siblings are Rachael Johnstone died 1748 Margaret Johnstone David Johnstone bJun 1724 Beattock I believe Beattock is very close to Moffat. Is anyone else researching this family or knows anything about them? Thomas was born Abt 1760, married Mary McMurdo on 30th December 1785, and died on 1st December 1833 aged 73 and is interred in Dunscore Village Cemetery. John (1) was born Abt 1786, died 1850 aged 65 in Crocketford in the Parish of Kirkpatrick Durham, Kirkcudbrightshire and is interred in Dunscore Village Cemetery along with his father Thomas. John's (1) sister Elizabeth married James Dun of Beoch, in the Parish of Irongray, two or three miles from Crocketford. John (2) married Helen Duff and had ten children, seven of whom were born in Dunscore with the remaining three being born in the Parish of Irongray. The 1841 Census shows John(2) and Helen living at Hillhead in the Parish of Irongray, the neighbouring farm to Meikle Beoch, with Elizabeth and James Dunn living in Meikle Beoch. The 1851 Census shows Helen and her family (minus John(2)) living in Newhouse, Crocketford in the Parish of Kirkpatrick Durham. Helen was born in Croalchaple, Closeburn, Dumfriesshire on 23rd August 1789 and died on 1st January 1879 in Newhouse, Crocketford aged 90 years and is interred in Kirkpatrick Durham Cemetery. Can anyone help me unravel this mystery? ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Fri, 16 Dec 2011 13:22:58 -0800 (PST) From: Dorothy Riegel <[email protected]> Subject: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] JOHNSTONE - CARRUTHERS To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 My great great grandparents were James Johnstone and Margaret Carruthers.?
