Hi Does anyone have access to servants lists for the Buccleuch Estates? My great aunt's husband Thomas Thompson is listed in the 1911 Scottish census as living in Canonbie and a hedger on the Buccleuch Estates. His sister-in-law Mary Scott is listed in the census as living at the same address and as a servant. I was wondering if she could could also be a servant on the estates. Any information gratefully received. Thanks Maureen Anderson
I think there will be lists of servants in the national Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh, but unfortunately the Buccleuch collection of papers is neither Indexed nor on line, so a personal visit is needed. Regards. Donald Sent from my iPhone. Please excuse any typo's.
