I am trying to find info on John Dickson who married Mary Thorburn but have not had any success and wonder if any researchers of the same surnames have come across anything I know from death cert of his son Dumfries jeweller Samuel Donaldson Dickson's 1811-1859 , that his father was a Blacksmith named John Dickson and his Mother was Mary Thorburn ………… The informant was brother in- law Walter C------ ? cant make it out ? 136 High Street Dumfries 1841 census has Samuel & Ann in Queensbury Street John DICKSON (1784 - ) John +. Mary THORBURN d. ? Occupation: Blacksmith John's Children: from Church Records CD Isabella DICKSON (1806), John DICKSON (1810), Samuel Donaldson DICKSON (1811), Mary Nairn DICKSON (1814), Barbara DICKSON (1816), Joseph DICKSON (1819), Robert Donaldson DICKSON (1820) all children were born in Carlaverock but only the father John was noted as parent son Samuel Donaldson DICKSON married Annie MILROY 13 Mar 1840 after the death of his first wife Mary MCCORMICK who died in 1831…. Annie Milroy was the daughter of Thomas MILROY Joiner & Beatrice RODDICK the daughter of my 4x G Grandfather John RODDICK& Elspeth SINCLAIR John's Grandchildren: John DICKSON (1831), Thomas Milroy DICKSON (1841), Joseph Walker Hinchcliffe DICKSON (1843), Mary Thorburn DICKSON (1844), Samuel Donaldson DICKSON (1846), Robert Donaldson DICKSON (1847), James McLachlan DICKSON (1849), Charles Gunning DICKSON (1850), Anne DICKSON (1851), Joseph DICKSON (1853), William Thorburn DICKSON (1855), William Scott DICKSON (1856), Thomas Hugh Ferguson DICKSON (1859) I have the following from Memorials of St Michaels pages 320 -321 " A neat monument nearby bears the name of Samuel Dickson jeweller died 5th march 1859 age 46 of whom the inscription truly says "He was kind father an affectionate husband,and much respected by all who knew him" Mr Dickson's wife Mary McCormick died 10th Oct 1832 in her 19th year his second wife Annie Milroy died 21st Oct 1871 age 54 with six of his children are also named in the inscription including Thomas Milroy Dickson died age 6 Thomas H Ferguson Dickson at 17 William Scott Dickson at 19 and James Mclachlan Dickson lost at sea age 23 an adjoining headstone rises to commemorate Thomas Milroy father of Annie Milroy died 21 Feb 1845 aged 57 his wife Beatrice Riddick; and their daughter Euphemia aged 32 there is no record on Scotlands People for this nor in Glasgow Herald so not certain which Robert it refers to have not purchased the will yet $$$ :0( Robert Donaldson Dickson Death: 30 May 1874 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America will DICKSON ROBERT DONALDSON 30/05/1874 SAILOR, MERCHANT SERVICE, RESIDING IN DUMFRIES DUMFRIES SHERIFF COURT SC15/41/15 There are Thorburns of Barnkin mentioned in the gravestones ie John Thorburn tenant of Barnkin died Apr 1792 age 43 and his wife & Isabella Donaldson who may be connected in some way (only going by Donaldson surname ) Regards Lesley in Tasmania
