    3. Just in case I missed something on my family names, I revisited the Auchencairn Cemetery, Kirkcudbrightshire MI list. All of a sudden the inscriptions become short and to the point at the time of death about 1958 and thereafter, with most inscribed "In loving Memory"...followed by very rarely more than two lines of the briefest anecdotal information. What a difference to some of my family headstones which include 11 lines and more with more than "Gimme the facts, Ma'am, only the facts"! What a find for those of us searching for those forebears who've gone before us. What is the reason for the paucity of information on more recent headstones? Is it the expense involved, or what? I do believe that in the newer cemeteries in the USA, for example, only flat markers are allowed on grass-covered graves to make for easier maintenance. Does anyone have an explanation? Maisie
