    3. G'day Brian, I haven't seen any responses to your query, so I could be repeating what you have already been told. I have just had a check on scotlandspeople and there is no record of a marriage from 1855-1866 inclusive for this couple. Do you have any other details. 1. [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Marriage of James BUHLMAN to Joan WALKER 1855

    3. Jenny - same here. I just returned from the local Family History Center with access to the filmed INDEXes for Marrriages 1855 and found no match. These INDEXes were made yearly in Scotland beginning 1 Jan and ending 31 December. An actual bound book was put together with alphabetical listings, males in the first section, females in the second section and contain Marriages from all 901 parishes in Scotland. These INDEX films show page after page after page of each of the massive books made using the Registers from the local General Register Office, they are not transcriptions or extractions. The 1855 INDEX books were handwritten and published in 1856. These books began to be typed in about 1861. To be a match [indicating they married each other], both the bride and groom must have identical INDEX information. Year, parish, entry number. I checked 1855 Marriages for BUHLMAN or any derivative [BULMAN, BULLMAN, BUELMAN, etc] and did not find any James or close [like Jas or John] in any of Scotland's 901 parishes. Since its an alpha listing, I can easily see BUL[anything] by looking up and down the columns for other spellings. So even if they happened to spell it BUYLMON or BILLMIN, I'd have seen it. There were no such listings. The IGI has an 1831 Marriage [from actual church Register Books] for the names James BULMAN and Joannah WALKER. They married on 4 Nov, 1831 in Dumfries, Dumfriesshire. The local FHC has not got Dumfries OPRs so I can't check the marriage entry for further information should there be any. Best information I can offer is a confirmation of what Jenny found....no 1855 Marriage anywhere in Scotland for these 2 names or similar ones. Probably the 1831 marriage in Dumfries is right, Elizabeth Little BULMAN was born to those 2 names in Dumfries on 12 August, 1832 and baptized 2 days later. I am seriously thinking the 1855 Marriage sent in as a Patron Submission is faulty information. Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA -----------------------------
