    3. Thanks Judi, I will keep the second Jean in mind although I suspect she did not belong to the family but until (if ever) I find who she did belong to I can't know positively. I have eliminated the most probable results from FamilySearch but there remain quite a few results in the "just possibly" category but very little to tie them down. When I get round to it I may find something on Scotland's People but since searching for "needles in haystacks" there costs a lot of money that is my last option. Thanks again, Christine -----Original Message----- From: Judi McRae Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2012 12:57 PM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Jean LITTLE b c 1838, Scotland Christine it is quite possible that they are both children of John and Jean LITTLE. I had that happen in one of my families of Littles. The oldest child was Susan Alice and the younger child had a different second name, however on the census they were both listed only as Susan so it was very confusing until I was finally found a document that listed the oldest's middle name and I saw it was different from the younger. I, too, couldn't find all the children on Family Search so I am beginning to think that that site is not as reliable as I first thought it was. Hope this helps Happy Hunting Judi McRae Tacoma, WA, USA _________________________________________________ --- On Thu, 3/15/12, "Christine Benson" <[email protected]> wrote: > Subject: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Jean LITTLE b c 1838, Scotland > To: "Cumberland Mailing List" <[email protected]>, > "Dumfries&Galloway Mailing List" > <[email protected]> > Hi All, > > In 1841, there is a Jean LITTLE b c 1838, Scotland living > with the family of > John and Jean LITTLE at Guards Mill. 3. I have found several families with children with the same first name. Usually when I find repeat names of children I assume the first ones have died. But I have found on several occasions that this is not the case and that two or more have survived, several to go on to have children. Sometimes they use a middle name during their lives others they actually seem to use the same name. Maybe this happens as a result of trying to stick hard and fast to naming patterns, who knows. I can tell you from doing a one name study of beattie's in the borders based on all the ones in the IGI, that it is far from being a complete record especially once you start going back in time. It varies drastically by county and parish.
