John McADAM of Galloway and wife Helen/Ellen McKENZIE - immigrants to Ontario, CAN Hello group. Please forgive me in advance. I'm new to this list and will try not to ramble. I wish to contact fellow researchers who might shed light on the ancestral lines of both John McAdam and Ellen McKENZIE in Scotland. I am especially interested in John McAdam's parents and his occupation, if that info is documented somewhere. I see that some researchers say John has the middle initial of "S", but I have no idea if that is accurate or for what middle name the "S" may represent. I believe I am descended from John McADAM, 1770-1840, and his wife, Helen/Ellen McKENZIE, 1781-1866, who emigrated about 1819 from the Galloway area, (with their 6 children) to London Twp., Middlesex, Ontario, CAN. (A seventh child, John McADAM, Jr. was born Nov 1819 at Westminster Twp., Middlesex, Ontario after arriving from Scotland.) My connection to this McADAM family is that one of John and Ellen's youngest daughters, Mary McADAM, born 1815 in Scotland, is my third great-grandmother. Mary McADAM , (1815-1895) married John Greenleaf HILL (1810-1899) at St. Paul's, London, Middlesex Co., Ontario on April 25, 1833. John and Mary HILL had 9 children and their family resided primarily in Oxford, Lambton and Middlesex counties of Ontario through 1899 and later. While most of these HILL descendants remained in Ontario, my ancestor, Nathan HILL and his wife Eliza MERRITT moved to Michigan and ultimately to California. I would appreciate any assistance and insight to understand the part of Scotland from which John and Ellen/Helen McAdam ancestors came. I have been reading about the area, in general, but have lots to learn. Thank you, kindly for your time.
