I'd never seen it before and from baisc on-line searching I found the case of a living person with the first name Caul, a nickname for Nicholas. Someone has suggested it could derive from Malcolm. Nicholas strikes me as a sensible source for Caull. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
