Surely the simple answer is to change the default to reply to the Group instead of to the Originator, as other Rootsweb lists do? The Administrator can change that setting in seconds. 'Reply to all' results in the message being sent to the originator twice - one direct from you, and one via Rootsweb. If the originator is subscribed in 'List' mode, there will only be a short delay between the two. If the originator is subscribed only in 'Digest' mode, the message from Rootsweb could be delayed for days, depending on certain options set by that List's administrator. For this reason, I think it best to not delete the direct address from your 'Reply to All' message. 2. When replying to the list, the default usually includes the original message, including headers, footers, tag lines, etc. Leaving this unedited can clutter your reply unnecessarily, so its best to spend a little time deleting superfluous content from the original message as appended to your reply. This may include some or even all of the original text. For anyone in 'Digest' mode only, the potential for clutter is enormous, so one needs to be mindful of this. Stanley, I completely agree. Still, I am new to the List and recognize that someone made this default decision because some concerns were reported in the past. But I am more concerned that good material of interest to the whole list---and future researchers checking the archives---is and will be missed by the default setting to go to the only to the individual who sent the message. Here's a perfect example: Here I am advocating Stanley and Vanessa's ideas and a few minutes ago I replied to Stanley's message with my thoughts but hit only "reply".......I forgot to hit "reply to all" ! ________________________________
