    1. [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] My Lambert ancestor, Galloway--need help!
    2. Jerrold Brosious
    3. Well,  here's the message regarding my elusive Lambert ancestor. Joseph Lambert was born c. 1760;   I've seen years ranging from 1758-1764.  According to his 1843 New York State Naturalization papers he declared that he was " a native of Galloway, Scotland ".     He married Catherine Bacon (born c. 1780) who was born in Ireland, place unknown.  Whether Joseph Lambert and Catherine Bacon married in Ireland or Scotland, I don't know.   By no later than June of 1807 they were living in Edinburgh, when my great-great-grandfather Andrew Lambert was born.   I have only one earlier documented child, and that is John Lambert born c. 1805; for his brthplace I have seen both Scotland and Ireland. The Lamberts resided in Edinburgh until 1832;  Joseph is said to have been "a merchant", but what kind, hasn't been specified.  If of any relevance, some/many of this family were artists, though as far as I know, none professionally.  They emigrated to America, arriving on or around April 2, 1832 at the port of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  Their destination for settlement was Mooers Forks, Clinton County, New York, only a few miles across the Quebec border.  Joseph Lambert and Catherine Bacon Lambert died at Mooers Forks, NY, he in 1851 and she in 1866.   Some of their children migrated to Glencoe,  McLeod County, Minnesota in the 1860's and 1870's. Basically,  Help, please !   If anyone has any resources for information, or even general ideas of how I might proceed as to identifying a birth, parents, siblings, etc., anything about the origins of Joseph Lambert,  I'll be deeply appreciative. 3. Perhaps I should have named the children of  Joseph Lambert and Catherine Bacon Lambert:  Michael (born c. 1805---Ireland or Scotland?);  Andrew, b. 4 June 1807,. Edinburgh;  John, b. ca 1811; Margaret, b. ca 1814; Mary, b. ca 1822; Catherine, b. ca 1825; and Edward b. ca 1828.....all but Michael born in Edinburgh as far as I know. I made an error in original message when I said the first known child was John, 1805; that should have been Michael.   I realize that Edinburgh is not within Dumfries-Galloway,  but thought it appropriate to round out the basic information on Joseph Lambert.     ________________________________ From: Jerrold Brosious <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Cc: Chris Mchugh <[email protected]> Sent: Tue, February 14, 2012 9:32:27 PM Subject: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] My Lambert ancestor, Galloway--need help!
