To Gordon Johnson, Is it possible that you could look for my gggrandfather John Dickison in the Buccleuch papers? My information is that John Dickison was overseer of the Maudslie Farm in Temple, Midlothian and was selected by a Mr. Maitland and Colonel Grant to go to New Zealand and manage the Delvy Estate, a lease acquired by Lord Buccleuch in 1859. John Dickison was born in Bedrule in 1822. Interestingly, John's daughter, Eliza Dickison married John Edgar in New Zealand and the Edgars of Moffat were descended from the Scotts of Canonbie and said to have been some relation to Lord Buccleuch. Anne Wilson formerly of EnZed, now Florida. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, April 09, 2011 3:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY Digest, Vol 6, Issue 40 Today's Topics: 1. I think there will be lists of servants in the national Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh, but unfortunately the Buccleuch collection of papers is neither Indexed nor on line, so a personal visit is needed. Hi Does anyone have access to servants lists for the Buccleuch Estates? My great aunt's husband Thomas Thompson is listed in the 1911 Scottish census as living in Canonbie and a hedger on the Buccleuch Estates. His sister-in-law Mary Scott is listed in the census as living at the same address and as a servant. I was wondering if she could could also be a servant on the estates. Any information gratefully received. Thanks Maureen Anderson
My Grandfather changed his name from Henry Moore to Henry Muir after his marriage to my Grandmother, causing, naturally enough lots of Family angst. Because of this knowledge of the Moore’s is rather scarce. I would be grateful for any information about Thomas Moore, his wife Anne Jamieson and their other children(apart from my grandfather) I believe there were about 5 of them I live in New Zealand, and I am making a trip back in a couple of months, and it would be useful to have some sort of information to see if i could contact any descendents Thanks Aird Muir

John CARRUTHERS (of Guileburn) born circa. 1721 died circa. 1810 had two wives (1) Jean JOHSTON b. circa. 1730 (Your 4th x G/Grandmother) (2) Mrs. Unknown Unknown (My 4th x G/Grandmother) Married abt. 1743? We are connected by our mutual 4th G/Grandfather John above. That's if I've done my sums correctly. Hope this answers your question let me know if you need further clarification. Additional Notes on Johns father William CARRUTHERS : Had Sasaine of Guillyburn (Kirkmahoe?) : East side of the watermilk 14 acres + Middleshaw park 8 acres North of Middleshaw farm St Mungo. There is conjecture as to where Guillyburn farm is situated and I stand corrected: I believe it is just above Duncow Village, in the heart of Kirkmahoe, Dumfriesshire. Just to the East of the Duncow River. Some say it is/was in St Mungo. Will be interested in anyone else's direction on this. The 1841 census reffers to Guillyburn, Kirkmahoe. Have failed to track down an early farm map of the area.
