    3. While trying to find pics/videos of places my ancestors worked/lived I came upon a Whitehill Cottage, Castle Douglas, which is noted as a holiday cottage. Perhaps those of you familiar with the area can help me... My question is: Could this be one in the same, or part of, Whitehill Cottages, Dumfries in which farm workers may have lived? My g'mother, Mary Campbell Mcdonald was born at Whitehill Cottages, Dumfries in April of 1898. Her family members were all labourers. Thanks so much! Mary Paladin PA; USA

    3. Hello Dumfries Thanks for all your prompt replies it was one of those senior moments on my part The wedding date should be 1895/6 My grandpa has been very illusive he was born 1869 not registered he was on the 1871 census he was then baptised in St Martin in the Bull Ring Birmingham in 1872 with his sister he was then on the 1881 census.Missing from the 1891 census he was on the 1901 with my Dad who was born 1900 . When the 1901 came out before it was on the internet I went to the Birmingham central library to look it up and found them but the printer wasn’t working so I waited till it was on the internet and they weren't there I e-mailed TNA and explained my dilemma they came back with the answer that they were mistranscribed as TEMPLE. The problem was my Grandpa’s writing. The same with the 1911 they are transcribed as SEMPLE .Where he was during those missing years and how he met my Grandma turned out they were on the stage .He was classed as an entertainer she a chorus girl and they ran away to Gretna to Marry. And now it turns out they can’t be found there either so my brick wall only gets thicker Thank you all again for your reply's best wishes Ray T Hi Ray: Marg in Alberta, Canada On Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 1:52 PM, Ray Tempest <[email protected]> wrote: Hello all I 'me new to your list I did try a short while ago but think I must have got the address wrong I ’me looking for my grand parents marriage they were married at Gretna Green in about 1865/6 I did contact Scots Family a while back with no luck so I hope someone else may have more info they were Peter Charles TEMPEST born Birmingham 1869 she was Margaret THOMPSON born Maryport Cumberland 1875 I wait in hope Ray TEMPEST ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Here is my last video until spring next year, Creetown, my 3x gt grandmother was born here and her brother was a tailor in Wigtown, I'm told that when the tide was out it was possible to walk across the bay from Wigtown to Creetown, something he did a least twice to bury his brother and his mother.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfG1fHz8UVg There is another video, though it is more about the birds than the scenery, I paid a visit to the Mersehead Nature Reserve near Carsethorn to see the overwintering Barnacle Geese, though it's about the geese you still get the feel of the area.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cuwuSMtW8A   Vanessa  All records are subject to error. 3. Thank you for all the great information and suggestions. Lots of info and clues to follow up with. This is my first venture into Scottish research so I appreciate the mention of Scotland people. The 1871 (Canada) census says John was born Kelton, Kirkcudbrightshire. That would be Dumfries, wouldn't it? I've been also posting on Kirkcudbrightshire list as I wasn't sure. The 1871 census also lists his address as Lodge Cothouse. Would that have any specific meaning in Scotland at that time? thanks again. > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > CC: [email protected] > Subject: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Caruthers and McNaught marriage > Date: Fri, 28 Oct 2011 12:58:11 +0200 > > Batch #: C118691, Source Call #: 6035516 REGISTER > Refers to James Carruthers born Kelton 16/4/1871 son of John CARRUTHERS & > Eliza McNAUGHT > > No other details on this line > Ian > > <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<snip>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > > In a message dated 28/10/2011 02:06:16 GMT Daylight Time, > [email protected] writes: > I'm looking for marriage date and record for: > John Carruthers b. abt Apr 1848 and > Elizabeth McNaught b.abt Mar 1851. >
