    1. 1841 census lookup please!
    2. william robb
    3. Hi all, Just hoping someone could possibly lookup William Robb, wife Grace. Not sure what children would have been at home but their names are... Janet, Andrew, Grace, George, Barbara, John, Agnes, William. Am just wondering where they were living at the time as they had moved back to the family home by the 1851 census at Dee Bridge. Thanks Heaps, Leeona

    3. Good evening all Just a quick e-mail as I think some people have been 'confused' with my new 'Header'. Over the past few years whenever I have changed ISP it has meant a new 'Header' for example I have been 'ROOTS47': 'Ancestry'; 'Caledonia'; and laterally 'CaledoniaRoutes' and now because I have Broadband I am using 'Alba'. However, my e-mail not been altered or changed and I am still at genealogy@ancestryroots.co.uk Hope this clears up any 'confusion'. Cheers Ewan

    1. re: Cowan & Howat
    2. On the 1881 census of Cambusbarron, St Ninians, Stirling, Scotland was listed John McIntyre, his wife, Mary Cowan Howat, their children, her brothers, and a Homer Cowan that was listed as "wife's cousin". I believe the Homer Cowan below is one and the same: 1867 - 882 - 133 Homer Cowan, was born at 7am on the 22nd of August, 1867 at Maxwelltown, Dumfries, Scotland. Mother - Janet Cowan. Registered as Illegitimate. Mary Cowan Howat's parents were James Howat b. abt. 1813 in Eng., and Margaret Kennedy Ross, b. abt. 1819 in Dumfries town. I'm trying to determine how Homer was a cousin. Since Mary's middle name was Cowan, I feel there is a common Cowan ancestor, but where? There are a lot of earlier Homer Cowans in the Dumfries town area. Mary had a brother named Homer Howat in 1847 in Dumfries. It must be Margaret Kennedy Ross' mother was a Cowan, or possibly, if his family was originally from Dumfries area, James Howat's mother could have been the Cowan. When are the monument inscriptions for Dumfries supposed to be available? Maybe they will shed a clue. Any Cowan researchers familiar with Homer Cowans? Thanks, Marc Archer in Flint, Michigan

    3. <In response to Patrick Dunbar's query of June 15.> Hi Patrick. I'm just now catching up on email and saw your post of June 15. I am researching the Dunbar family from Ruthwell (John Dunbar 1743-1821 who married Elizabeth "Betty" Hill abt 1750-1790) and their descendants. I've previously posted part of the family history, (based on my research and collaboration with other helpful researchers) on Ancestry.com's free World Tree. If you type in both of their names in the Ancestry.com family tree search, you should be able to pull up the tree "easily" (I hope.) I also have additional source information I didn't post with the tree but which I'm happy to share. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information. And I'll add my annual reposting here: does anyone have information on the ancestors of the above mentioned John Dunbar and Elizabeth Hill? They both continue to be my brick walls. They had three children: William, Susanna, and Jean (Jane). Their three children and many of their descendants were raised in Ruthwell, although William's son, George (1813-1882) moved to Canada (which is the primary branch I'm researching). Thanks for any help!
